The Zephyr is a swingset ride located in the Coney Mall section of Kings Island. It opened in 1986 and sits adjacent to the arcade games on the pathway toward the Area 72 section that hosts Flight of Fear and Orion. It is one of three swingset rides at the park, with the others being WindSeeker and Charlie Brown's Wind-Up.

Background[]

Despite being a classic carnival ride, the Zephyr was not one of the rides originally from Coney Island. The swing ride opened in 1986, and has been operating in the park for over thirty-five years.

Ride Experience[]

Riders sit in individual seats with a lap bar that is hooked with a clip that goes between the riders' legs. Once all riders are seated, the ride begins to raise the seats off the ground. After raising a few feet, the seats begin to swing in a circular manner, while the ride is tilted on one side, with the tilt angle also rotating around while the ride operates. After a few moments of swinging, the ride slows down, and lowers. The riders depart once the ride comes to a complete stop.

Trivia[]

  • Much like the Dodgem and Grand Carousel, a smaller version of this ride for younger kids is available in Planet Snoopy. The smaller swing ride is Charlie Brown's Wind-Up, though it was gone by numerous names in previous years based on the respective theme of the children's area in the park.
  • Another similar ride is also located in Coney Mall, called the Windseeker. The primary difference is that the Windseeker goes much higher, similarly to the height of rides such as the Eiffel Tower, Orion and Drop Tower
