The Scrambler is a carnival ride located in the Coney Mall section of Kings Island. The ride is one of several original rides taken from Coney Island, and is also one of the many rides that has remained in operation since the park opened. It is one of many Twist rides around the world that spin riders around in a manner similar to a cake blender. Multiple versions of this ride exist, and even include the same name, at fellow Cedar Fair parks, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Michigan’s Adventure, and Dorney Park.

History[]

The Scrambler originally operated at Coney Island from 1969 - 1971 before being relocated to its current location at Kings Island. The ride has undergone many renovations since debuting in the park, including the ride cars being replaced and the lights being replaced. Coney Island would later open a new copy of the ride in 1991, almost twenty years after the previous version of the ride had been relocated to Kings Island. That version closed in 2019 when Coney Island closed all their dry rides.

The Scrambler originally had its structuring painted yellow, but in 2016, it was changed to have blue structuring and LED lights that flash various patterns at night. Special logos were also added to the front of the cars, which continued to feature their green and purple design.

In 2020 the Scrambler cars got a new look.

Trivia[]

  • There are many variations of this ride, some of which have the same name, at various parks, including other Cedar Fair parks such as Kings Dominon, Carowinds, and the company's namesake parks, Cedar Point and Valleyfair.
  • Like most rides from Coney Island that were relocated, this one also originally opened there in the late 1960s, as did the MonsterPeanuts Off-Road Rally, Race for Your Life Charlie Brown, and Linus' Beetle Bugs before being relocated to Kings Island in time for its opening.
