Welcome to the Kings Island WikiEdit

Welcome to the Kings Island Wiki. As a local who grew up visiting the park, I thought it would be a good idea to document the history of the park after finding that a wiki for the park, let alone information on the park on the Cedar Fair Wiki, was not available. As a result, this wiki was born.

What is Kings Island?Edit

Kings Island is a seasonal amusement park located in Mason, Ohio, owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. The park operates from April to early September, and reopens for weekends in October for Halloween Haunt. The park first opened on April 29, 1972, and has been entertaining guests of the Cincinnati, Ohio area for over forty-five years, with no signs of stopping anytime soon.

The park has switched owners numerous times. It was originally opened by the Taft Broadcasting Center, which was headquartered nearby in Cincinnati, in 1972. Kings Entertainment Company (KECO) purchased the park along with Taft's other parks, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, and Canada's Wonderland. in 1987. Film company Paramount Pictures later bought all of these parks, as well as KECO's own Great America, in 1992, leading to many rides based on Paramount Pictures films such as Top Gun. During this period, Paramount was acquired in 1994 by its current owners, Viacom. This led to the inclusion of themes based on Nickelodeon TV shows, which later replaced the entire Hanna-Barbera family area in 2006. Cedar Fair purchased all of Paramount's parks that same year, and as a result, began to remove any references to Paramount and Viacom properties, and once again changed the mascots of the park and the family area to its current state, this time, to the characters of Charles Schulz's Peanuts comic strips,
